The cushioning competition in the footwear industry is an all-out arms race at this point, and Nike just recently unveiled the latest weapon in their arsenal – the Joyride. Comprised of a proprietary blend of rubber and plastic and formed into tiny beads, Joyride promises the most unique 1-to-1 sensation of response thanks to a zonal configuration aimed at providing quickness return on heel strikes and launch football at the forefoot. Nike’s also infusing the new system into lifestyle models such as the Joyride NSW Setter and the lower-priced Joyride that features the beads exclusively on the heel and midfoot. The upper shares a similar design DNA as the Setter model with a variety of panels in mesh and other synthetics, while an exterior pod sits at the midfoot to house the Swoosh logo. Expect a release this September for $140.
