Kohei Okita, the designer behind the cult Japanese label Vainl Archive, has quickly become one of the most exciting collaborators in Reebok’s family of creators. After a string of releases with his own label, the Boston footwear brand invited Okita to helm the “EightyOne” collection, a series that references the +81 international telephone code that connects Japan with the rest of the world. Its next collection, which pans not too far away from the Instaump Fury, takes the Premier Pump Paris and provides it two characteristically understated colorways.
Alongside, the sub-label has introduced yet another selection of apparel, each sprawled with the overarching insignia. Athletic tops, hoodies, track pants, and even socks bear the same logo hits, creating a background wardrobe that sets the tone for the somewhat more colorful footwear. And among this duo, the lighter pair is certainly the loudest as it adopts a pale blue shade along its underlying construction. Atop, darker cool tones contrast in a wave-like pattern, its shapes placed parallel to panels of a green-tinted grey. Elsewhere, leather toe caps, linings, and tongues lean more towards neutral, creating a backdrop for the back pump, the reflective tongue tab, and the adjacent logos. The accompanying colorway is far more familiar to past releases as it uses the same olive and black pairing that has been seen not only on the aforementioned Instapump Fury.
