Founded in 2016 and based in Los Angeles, KOI celebrates the working class, the immigrant community and historically marginalized peoples. Inspired by founder Daniel Buezo’s father, who’s been a longtime construction worker, the canvas of choice for the California brands’ collaboration is the Lowland CC. Each shoe features an individually and personally modified off-white canvas upper; haphazard paint strokes make their way onto the pair too, as on Mr. Buezo’s workwear. Furthermore, all pairs are packaged with a brush and sandpaper, which allow additional customization of everything from the outsole to the laces. In addition to the co-branding on the shoes, boxes are stamped with a message from the LA collective: “We are all cut from different fabrics but together make a whole. This is for our family and for all Vans UV Dreams Era Men's Shoes.”
