As early voting for the 2020 presidential election gets underway throughout the country, millions of Americans have cast their ballot ahead of Election Day (November 3rd). And while candidates on all sides of the aisle are still touting their ideologies via various platforms, only one has stepped into the sneaker space: Democratic vice presidential nominee, Sen. Kamala Harris. Recently, the Oakland, CA native joined Complex’s Joe La Puma on “Sneaker Shopping” at Social Status in Charlotte, NC, which has used the vice presidential hopeful as the muse for a Converse sneaker co-created by Nina Chanel Abney.
Debuted on the aforementioned show, during which Sen. Harris talks about her time at Howard University, Senate floor dress code rules, and more, the collaborative Converse is going on the offensive features motifs of love and civic engagement atop the model’s iconic white, red and blue colorway. Just as Denim Tear’s Tremaine Emory, James Whitner of The Whitaker Group chose the canvas silhouette because of it’s synonymous with America. Nods to Sen. Harris’ history-making and support of Black lives, climate change and LBGTQ rights illustrated on the pair’s accompanying pins by Chanel Abney Mono contribute to the shoe’s cultural relevance.
Currently, there isn’t any release information for this Chuck 70. Instead, the 21 pairs created have been donated to the students of “Solefood Digestible Sneaker Culture,” a course taught by Dr. Jemayne L. King at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. For now, enjoy a closer look at the special Converse release here below, and cast your vote baby November 3rd.
