Coming from a background the emphasized education (both his parents and his younger brother are university-level educators), Brooklyn-born Talib Kweli first gained prominence with BlackStar, a collaborative duo with fellow artist Mos Def; BlackStar brought a focus on Afrocentric hip-hop and garnered critical acclaim as well as mainstream success.
