Team USA has done it again. It wasn’t as easy as some expected, with our men’s Olympic basketball squad being tested a couple of times during these summer games, but now that it’s all said and done our elite group is going home with the gold. Their final hurdle was the Spanish national team, one of the deepest in terms of NBA players with big names like the brothers Gasol and Serge Ibaka putting in work.
The rematch of the 2008 Beijing meeting between USA and Spain served up another nail-biter for basketball fans worldwide, with the Spanish squad bringing things within one point at the halfway mark. With their work cut out for them Team USA rose to the challenge; Kevin Durant pulled down 30, Kobe continued to be one of the hardest working players in the world, Chris Paul had his deft play on full display, and LeBron James closed out his incredible run over the past nine womens with some huge highlight plays and an Olympic gold medal.
