Following a three-year hiatus, Mowalola — founded by Nigerian-born designer and singer Mowalola Ogunlesi — debuted their Spring/Summer 2023 collection at Paris Fashion Week. Dubbed “Burglarwear,” the range visually explores what it takes to steal and what it means to be stolen, presenting everything from balaclavas to intentionally constricting gowns.
“For Burglarwear, the brand’s defiant return to the runway after a three-year hiatus, Mowalola presents a study of what it truly takes to steal – money, jewelry, data, power, hearts. Unexpected common ground is unearthed between characters you’d otherwise keep firmly apart.”
To welcome the eponymous label back into the fold, New Balance have offered up their newly-crafted 90/60, ushering in the two’s very first collaborative effort. The design of the shoe itself, aside from Ogunlesi’s additions, is a thief in and of itself, perfectly aligning with the SS23 collection’s themes with its mash-up of borrowed parts. And atop these, the designer delivers two predominantly blacked out colorways, which brush dark green and purple across the toe, profile, and branding.
