Matt Varga Once a genuine contender for “hottest sneaker in streetwear,” the original CDG Converse are coming back to digital shelves in classic black & white.
Since minting their antagonism in 2009, the concept of planting Comme Des Garcons’ heart logo on classic canvas has been built upon each successive season. A full range of vibrant Pantone options, all-over heart prints, literally flipping the logo; there’s been a lot of iteration on the easily understandable motif.
Stripping back the later twists, the four styles on offer here keep things ultra-simple; the playful heart emblem is planted in-line with the final eyestay on the Chuck 70 Low and a few steps below the collar on the High. Given that these retro efforts had previously been left relatively untouched, it only amplified the iconic status they achieved in the years since, something they’ll no doubt seek to recapture for their 15th anniversary.
The full collection drops on July 11th via Converse.com; retail is set at $150 for unisex sizing. In addition to the adult versions featured here, all four shoes will also be available in kids’ sizing. Keep the direct “Where To Buy” shopping links handy for the drop.
