adidas is responsible for creating some of the most industry-shaking cushioning systems of the 21st century, with BOOST and 4D alike opening new doors when it comes to manufacturing and ensuring top-tier comfort. Continuing to push the envelope, the Three Stripes is now ready to unleash its latest innovation to date. Meet the adidas ZPONGE; a new model featuring midsole technology inspired by and named after the highly compressional biology of sponges.
No sponges were hurt in the production of this shoe, but the midsole takes after the sea creature’s biology to a tee. The adidas ZPONGE looks to nature with an engineered open-cell structure, not abiding by any one uniform pattern. Meanwhile, the ZPONGE’s futuristic midsole is paired with an upper that’s anything but. The top half of the ZPONGE taps into adidas’ track shoe expertise with a hearty helping of nylon, with extra padding appearing around the heel and collar portions.
Following a limited-edition black colorway, two more looks are set to release in Europe on December 19th, 2024. One pairs an “Ice Yellow” upper with “Focus Blue” underfoot, while its companion features blue and “Wonder Mauve.” Budget for a retail price of $130 if you’re interested in giving these a spin.
