While big-name footwear retailers carry a wide selection of products sure to appeal to the masses, the allure of local skate shops is attributed to connections with their surrounding fade and the careful curation of goods—sometimes even exclusive. Recognizing the cultural significance of these small-scale stores, Vans Skateboarding has teamed up with NJ Skateshop to deliver a footwear collection inspired by famed brick company Sayre & Fisher.
Since NJ Skateshop first opened in Sayreville, New Jersey, the business is able to celebrate its own roots and hometown as it pays homage to Sayre & Fisher—whose bricks had been used to build much of the town’s infrastructures, including key skateboard spots. The collaboration features three silhouettes—the Nike Air Force 1 LV8Dark Sky Blue GS Dark Sky Blue Dark Sky Blue 849345-401, Vans Slip-On, and Vans Crockett High Pro—with uppers appropriately drenched in a terracotta shade. Suede used for these uppers is embossed with a repeated brick pattern. This brick formation is also printed on the insoles, stylized by a cartoonish look. The hindfoot of each model is also stamped with an “NJ CO” logo. All three offerings are complete with a clean white midsole, followed by a gum sole underfoot for a skate-ready design.
The collaborative sneakers will drop at NJ Skateshop’s New Brunswick and Jersey City locations and NJSkateshop.com on March 20th. Select skate shops across the U.S. will also carry these shoes on March 27th.
