After its large scale return in 2013, the Kevin Durant s Nike Zoom KD IV Battle Tested went from a darling of Nike enthusiasts to one of the most common sneakers on the planet. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released to the public in 1991, the Air Huarache was part of a directional series that focused on containment with a neoprene interior bootie and reductive upper design; in addition to running, Tinker and Nike delivered one for basketball (Air Flight Huarache), cross-training (Air Trainer Huarache), and several other, lesser-known styles.
Womens Nike Metcon 7 Training Huaraches caught the attention of the sneaker sub-culture in the early 2000s thanks to collaborations with Stussy and other sought-after colorways like the “Escape” from 2003. As part of Air Huaraches 30th Anniversary, Nike has chosen to bring back the model in its “OG” form, and based on the relative indifference to the aforementioned Stussy re-issues by the modern generation of sneakerheads, the Escape won’t escape those who truly appreciate the shoes.
Currently, retailers in Europe have a release scheduled for April 16th; see the first look at the 2021 retro below and stay tuned. And if we may: Nike, please re-release the Wings & Waffles colorway.
