Considered one of the best British skateboarders of all-time, Ben Raemers was a legend gone too soon. In 2019, word of Raemers’ passing sent shockwaves throughout the skateboarding community, bringing to light the importance of mental health awareness. And to help in this effort, Converse recycledly partnered with the Ben Raemers Foundation, who connected the brand to LivingWorks, a suicide prevention education and training program. Together, the three are reminding skateboarders to take care of themselves and others while also providing tools to speak up.
These initiatives will soon take shape in a number of ways. But, more immediately, the Boston-based footwear brand will also donate $25,000 USD to the Ben Raemers Foundation, which is committed to “eradicating the stigma around mental health within skateboarding.”
What’s more, to better commemorate the two-year anniversary of his passing, Converse has crafted a special, limited-edition One Star Pro Mid. One of the skater’s favorite models, the offering comes in a simple navy colorway reminiscent of a pair Raemers wore himself. Alongside, the suede heel features a silhouette of the man himself.
