It, however, has also recognized opportunity, leading to partnerships enjoyed by local cultures and global audiences. With dozens of sponsored athletes competing for gold at the upcoming event in Tokyo, the Swoosh understands that rising to the occasion (and perhaps, stealing the show before the competition even starts) is crucial. To this end, it’s put together numerous footwear and apparel commemorating the Japan-held event. Among the former, four collaborations from Nike SB have caused a rapture on social media. Running and skateboarding shoes have also appeared in a vibrant “Rawdacious” colorway made specifically for the Summer Olympics, demonstrating once again that Nike understood the assignment.

Despite being committed to innovation, brands like adidas and New Balance are consistently digging through their archive in search of both inspiration and products that deserve a second life.
