Before the union between sport, streetwear and high fashion was commonplace, Yohji Yamamoto and adidas were redefining collaboration with Y-3. Two decades later, the partnership between the Japanese designer and German behemoth remains a cornerstone of savvy fashion circles, to which Palace aims to speak with its “20 Year: Recoded” collaboration.
While a newer collaborator to the Three Stripes, Palace has quickly made a name for itself within the world of streetwear and skate. Past collections with adidas have quickly sold out and praised by diehard skaters. For “20 Year: Recoded,” the British cohort combines its irreverent humor with the rebellious spirit of Yamamoto’s project to achieve a 34-product collection that includes: co-branded hoodies, souvenir jackets, track suits, puffer jackets, tailored garments and a number of accessories. Additionally, the joint-effort sees three iterations of the Y-3 YUUTO sneaker.
First seen in 2004. the adidas-backed silhouette couples two geometric design sections across the upper with predominantly tonal color schemes. All-black and green pairs play supporting roles to the off-white-colored offering that features a rose graphic at the forefoot, the same image that graces some of Y-3’s archival pieces. Co-branding appears on the adiPRENE-cushioned model, which rounds out the retrospective capsule well.
The “20 Year: Recoded” collection–which was modeled by Lucas Puig and Zinedine Zidane in the Jack Davison and Robbie Spencer-led campaign–arrives on Friday, November 11th, via Palace stores, online Adidas Crazy Byw X 2.0 Ee8327.
