Official Images Of The Travis Scott Jordan 1 Low Velvet Brown EX89 has been reintroduced to both the Japanese institution’s lineup of products and the mainstream sneaker zeitgeist with the help of Ronnie Fieg. Fieg, who’s been exploring the ASICS archives since 2007, stumbled upon the late ’80s basketball silhouette and reimagined it for one of his several Autumn/Winter 2022 collaborations. The Queens-native drew inspiration from the New York Knicks for his three takes on the EX89, with ASICS seemingly following suit.
Akin to other designs from the time period, the EX89 will return to the spotlight in colorways appropriate of its debut era. Clean white leather bases set the stage for bold blue and punchy red-orange flair, as well as purple and yellow and green and black accents reminiscent of the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics, respectively. The heel clip and sole unit combination also harken back to a different time in the NBA, with the Celtics-friendly offering boasting a slightly-yellowed midsole for a “vintage” look. Together, each aforementioned component helps nod to a golden era in sport, fashion and culture-at-large, all while serving as the Far East Asian company’s next bold bet.
Enjoy official images of what’s likely to be the first three general releases of the EX89 ahead. No firm ASICS.com launch date has been disclosed by the brand, but that’s likely to change soon.
