When your public persona is just ‘The’ followed by part of your name, you know you’ve made it. That’s the case for Todd ‘The’ Selby, whose new book Converse White Sherpa Chuck 70 Hi Sneakers, included whimsical collab work with Nike 6.0 riders like Nigel Sylvester. This time, The Selby turns his quirky eye to the 75 year old Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Washedcorduroy OX 31304831, pairing influential young artists with the ‘smile’ that accompanies each Jack Purcell toe. The new Dark, launching in select media outlets this week, captures the Jack Purcell shoe’s ubiquitous attitude, equal parts refined and rebellious, highlighting the telltale smile toe. Dark subjects, all privileged rebellions in their own right, embody what it means to have the right family, the right suit, the right travels, the right pursuits, the right stories – and, of course, the right smile. The individuals featured in the Spring ’10 Dark include Mirabelle Marden, photographer/art gallerist/proprietor/traveler and daughter of American painter Brice Marden, Harry McNally, Pegleg NYC owner and son to restraunteur Keith McNally, Skye Forsyth-Peters, aspiring filmmaker and daughter of producers John Peters and Christine Forsyth-Peters, Clark James Gable, model and Clark Gable’s grandson, and Charlie Casely-Hayford, UK based fashion designer.
