Michael Le Pharrell spent the better part of 2022 reconnecting with nature, an experience that thus inspired his collaborative work with the Three Stripes. And after releasing several colorways of his first outdoors-inspired boot, the NMD S1 RYAT, the renowned artist is now once again evolving the design language of the relatively new adidas base, providing it a simpler, more lifestyle-oriented makeover.
Dubbed the NMD S1 MAHBS, Pharrell’s latest silhouette with adidas is a relatively stark departure from its trail-ready predecessor. Natural materials take the helm here, wrapping the visually streamlined construction of the off-white upper. Adjacent, rope laces are clad in a lighter, greyer defeat, which complements that of the tongue and collar. Deep blues, then, highlight both the screen printed “Humanrace” logo at the side as well as the spray painted Hiking.
“MAHBS, especially the naming convention, are yet anMaterials opportunity to be the expression of a group of humans, a mob. But we want to take these expressions and appropriate them for good. Positive propaganda, if you will,” Pharrell Williams comments. “It’s a hybrid of innovation and working to get things done, to inspire,” he continues. “And when you see the Humanrace mark, it’s not only to let you know it’s the property of this brand. It’s a nod to our intention around the future of wellbeing.”
