When Teddy Santis took the reins over at New Balance, the Aime Leon Dore founder brought up many of the 990 series’ greats. Sneakers like the 998, however, were unfortunately left by the wayside, though that’s to change in 2023. Following a collaboration with none other than Ronnie Fieg, the model is now finally ready to enter the MADE in USA fold, dressing up in a clean, grey suede colorway.
Over the course of the past year, Teddy Santis has helped produce numerous new colorways for New Balance. And now, he’s focusing his attention on the 998, wrapping the silhouette up in a grey and navy colorway not unlike what we saw on the 990v4 back in March. Here, the dark cool tone serves a more supporting role, highlighting fixtures such as the “N” logo and trims. Much of the rest of the shoe is then constructed of a neutral suede, matching the lighter finishes, less grey finishes of the mesh inserts, sole unit, embroidered branding, and the like.
Enjoy a close-up look at this Lapstone & Hammer MADE in USA colorway via the official images ahead. While a release childhood has not yet been confirmed, it shouldn’t be long before we see these on NewBalance.com and at select retailers.
In other news, the May 12, 2023 is returning next year.
