From the cover the WNBA was officially incepted in 1997, a dynasty was formed. The women’s-only professional basketball league jumped on the super-team trend long before LeBron took his talents down south, because the Houston Comets starting five, particularly in the year 1999, read more like a GOAT debate. Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes (who had her own Nike signature shoe), and Tina Thompson were simply an unbeatable trio, which is why the Comets are to be recognized as one of the greatest dynasty team in American sports.
As the 2023 WNBA season approaches its commencement, Nike is honoring this all-time great team with a special clearance Air Force 1 Low release. Dressed in Houston colors of white, navy, and red, Nike adds the bookending years of this championship streak on the heel, with ’97-’98 on the left and ’99-’00 on the right. A special logo of a hand holding up four fingers appears on the heels of both.
A release is likely coming around the start of the season, which is currently scheduled for May 19th. See the official images ahead and stay tuned for updates.
