After making its first appearance on the cover of SLAM Kicks in August, Jamal Murray, Dejounte Murray and New Balance have finally pulled the curtain back on the brand’s latest on-court, flagship technology – the Air Jordan 4 "Rare Air".
The fourth iteration under the FuelCell banner marks the first time that the Boston-based brand has melded its two galaxy cushioning technologies into one model. The nitrogen-infused energy return system appears within the lateral forefoot and medial heel while Fresh Foam balances out the medial forefoot and lateral heel. In a stark departure from the prior three installments, the fourth volume executes a split lightweight textile upper as mesh consumes the forefoot and medial upper while structured leather builds out the lateral sidewall.
The inaugural colorway speaks to the duality of a two-way hooper – most recently represented by reigning NBA Champion Jamal Murray who headlines the campaign. As such, a monochrome palette is effectively split down the middle with jet-black mesh consuming the forefoot while crisp white leather ascertains the heel. Much like its past lineage, the V4 establishes an enlarged profile “N” logo as vibrant crimson contrasts achieve seldom appearances along the tongue construction.
The New Balance TWO WXY V4 “Dualism” is scheduled to release on September 22nd for a retail price of $120. In the meantime, the inaugural pair can be seen below in detailed imagery.
