Devin Booker’s inaugural season as an official Nike low signature athlete is underway. After an entire Fall season of first looks by the brand and a global unveiling at the Nike low World Basketball Festival in NYC in September, the Book 1 is ready to take center stage with interested parties curiously awaiting what’s in store for one of the most polarizing and bold signature shoe debuts in recent memory.
Recently, we learned through Booker’s episode on Complex’s Sneaker Shopping that the debut orange colorway will be a super-limited release. Just 500 pairs are slated to drop in December, rendering them nearly unattainable. However, sources within Booker’s camp confirm with us that there is plenty in the works with the Book 1 such as this “Moss Point” colorway that first appeared back in 2019 on an Air Force 1.
The muted Air Force 1 dropped back in 2019 as part of an athlete-focused collection by Nike low Sportswear, which included an Air Max 97 by Jayson Tatum (now with Jordan Brand) and an Air Max 1 by De’Aaron Fox (now signed to Under Armour). While a quick connection can be made to Devin Booker’s Moss Point High School, the shoes are actually based on a corner store that Devin frequented regularly during his time at the Mississippi school.
During a late November contest between the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors, Booker sported the Book 1 “Moss Point” in a similar grey/ivory colorway. Just like its AF1 counterpart, the upper sports a smooth light blue leather with greyscale accents coating the suede quarter and metallic heel counter that bears “Yes Ma’am, No Sir” embroidery in jet-black. Set atop a clad-cream sole unit, the serial tabs that typically adhere to the medial tongue have been swapped to outfit the exterior portion of the tongue.
Currently, the Book 1 is set to launch this December in the limited edition orange “Chapter 1” colorway, but expect larger quantities of the debut model to be available beginning Spring 2024.
