adidas tubular and KoRn released their first ever capsule collection last year, but longtime followers of the nu metal pioneers know that KoRn’s love for the Three Stripes date back to the band’s earliest days. This October, the two parties are releasing an adidas tubular Superstar that evokes memories of a particular 1994 music video.
The song in question is “Blind,” the first single released from KoRn’s self-titled debut album. Band frontman Jonathan Davis wore a black and red adidas tubular tracksuit for the music video, coordinating his outfit with black and white adidas tubular on-feet. Looking at the sneaker at hand, the significance is clear as day.
The insoles feature KoRn’s self-titled album cover, an eerie picture of a girl sitting on a swing, and the insoles come with red stitching reading “Est. 1994” in old English typography. Harkening back to Davis’ music video shoes once more, the sidewalls and tongue come crafted out of black leather with white stripes. On the medial side, the stripes are comprised of clear TPU revealing repeating trefoil and KoRn logos. Capping off the delivery with more branded touches, adidas tubular brings a white trefoil logo to the tongue, gory “Superstar” text to the medial quarter, and black “KoRn” text to the backtab.
If you need more evidence as to the shoe’s inspiration, adidas tubular and KoRn have also crafted an apparel collection featuring tees, pants, and a black and red tracksuit that’s nearly identical to the one Jonathan Davis flaunted three decades ago. The collection will release in full towards the end of October, with retailers marking the shoes for either October 25th or October 31st.
