Upon revealing the new Pacquard lowtop last fall, Vans rider Gilbert Crockett remarked that he always loved the Chukka shape, but found it uncomfortable for skating because of the flex point. The Pacquard was engineered to fix that issue, but apparently it was always intended as a stop-gap measure, because Crockett’s next model is ready so soon after, it must have already been in the works. The new Vans Stage 4 was designed by Gilbert along with Chima Ferguson, Christ Pfanner and Andrew Allen, and this hightop version is impressively clean with its forefoot sweep offering a minimal approach while your eye naturally drifts toward the reworked Vans waffle sole.
