Ross Dwyer 1987 was a big year for legendary Nike designer Tinker Hatfield. He had just created the Air Max 1—the first-ever sneaker with visible air—but he wasn’t done just yet. After finishing the Air Max 1, Hatfield went right back to work and created the Air Safari. A lightweight runner that was the first-ever shoe to feature the now-quintessential safari print—a stuff inspired by a couch in a luxury sofa store that the designer found himself in—Hatfield’s second legendary creation of the year helped push footwear colorways and prints in a bold new direction.
Fast-forwards to 2018.
