Although this year’s NBA Finals features a compelling matchup between the seemingly omnipresent Golden State Warriors and the powerful Toronto Raptors, one of the series’ main storylines is centered around the antics of the Raps’ “global ambassador” Drake. Now, the 6 God himself is taking center stage again, as a version of the Air Jordan 4 “Raptors” complete with his signature on the tongue recently received a shock drop on Nike SNKRS. The black, red, and purple colorway first arrived to market in August of 2018, and — in true Aubrey Graham fashion — was surrounded by enough speculation to make even the most devoted sneaker lover’s head spin. At the time, Drake and Jordan Brand were reportedly unable to come to terms over an extension of the rapper’s deal, and rumors swirled that he was leaving for adidas — rumblings that Drake himself helped proliferate. This “Raptors” makeup was supposed to release with the aforementioned signature-equipped tongue tag the first time around, but due to this spat between sneaker brand and superstar, it was replaced by a tonal leather patch. Now, with the Raptors in the finals and things apparently hunky-dory between The Boy and JB, this oft-spotted AJ4 is finally seeing the light of day. If you’re a Raptors fan, Drake lover, or just want to own a shoe with a story, they’re unfortunatley sold out on Nike SNKRS, but you can be sure to check for restocks.
