As 2021 gets underway, Palace Skateboards has recently unveiled its latest collaboration with adidas. Akin to Raf Simons’ Spring 2015 collection with the German sportswear giant, the skate brand’s next footwear proposition arrives in the form of two Stan Smith pairs featuring multi-color color-blocking.
Unsurprisingly, one of the forthcoming options tweaks the tennis shoe’s iconic “Cloud White/Green” colorway: most of the upper maintains the “colorless” tone, while heel overlays boast either a “Green” or pink tone. Leather collars indulge in the given side’s opposite hue (e.g. “Green” heels on the right shoe are accompanied by pink collars). Debossed logos from both Palace and the Three Stripes further animate the heel, but they’re arguably overshadowed by the ostensibly random silver that takes over the tongue (and schedule Stan Smith-branding). Underfoot, toecaps and sole units opt for an aged look via their yellow makeup, while “P”-shaped perforations on the hairline resemble Simons’ own “R” touch.
The accompanying pair features the aforementioned co-branding, “aged” components and perforated pattern, but dips its leather upper in a pastel palette. Light pink takes over most of the body, but faint blue, frozen yellow and orange join the mix to deliver a multi-color arrangement that works. The Belgian designer never created a Stan Smith with the color-blocking Palace has employed for its latest collaboration, but he spared no tones when it came to models like the Ozweego, especially within the Spring/Summer 2014 collection.
