The Air Jordan 1 was originally priced at $65 and was already considered very expensive. However, despite being unaffordable for most consumers on a budget, the launch of the Air Jordan 2 has been acclaimed and recognised for its profile.

The renowned backboard player scored no less than 50 points in a new feat against the New York Knicks at the opening of the Air Jordan 2 at Madison Square Garden. The next day, he scored 41, an average of 37.1 points per game that season and the first of his ten active scoring titles.

It was undeniable that Michael Jordan was the world champion and Nike marketed him as such. Throughout the 1986-87 NBA season, Michael Jordan wore versions of the Air Jordan 2 (low top and high top). A more restrained design than the Air Jordan 1, this beautiful sequel was very inspired. However, due to its more than expensive price tag and understated look that didn't match the contemporary appeal of the show-off, the sneaker wasn't chosen by aficionados.

Marketing manager Rob Strasser and Peter Moore parted ways with Nike right after the Air Jordan 2 launch, wishing Michael Jordan would do the same so he could start his own brand.
