Nike’s Swoosh and jordan girls Brand’s Jumpman could be on NBA uniforms beginning in 2017.
According to a report by Terry Lefton of Sports Business Daily, Nike and NBA have “the framework for a deal” in place that would not only put the sports Triple maker in charge of producing all of the league’s uniforms but also open the door for each brand to advertise its respective logo on those uniforms.
While the decision to do so is considered a detail to be determined at a later date, the possibility opens up debate on what kind of further marketing and sales inroads such a move could make for Nike, Inc. particularly in footwear. Nike Basketball’s roster already includes superstars LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kobe Bryant, while jordan girls Brand counts Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin air jordan girls 4 laser 2015 retro release info.
While the 3-Stripes logo of current NBA partner adidas has never appeared on NBA game jerseys, it has been included on replica jerseys and other apparel at retail, a method Nike could also easily step into with its own logos once a takeover is complete.
Despite the seeming toss-up between Nike and Under Armour after adidas announced on March 16 it would not renew its partnership with the NBA, Nike is ready made to step into the role of apparel producer with a long established international presence and distribution network. From the NBA’s point of view, Nike and jordan girls Brand can help generate exponential growth with an already iron-clad presence not only in basketball but also in various sports where the NBA’s appeal can be cross-pollinated. In essence, more brand presence means more athletes playing basketball, which turns greater interest to the NBA.
The Jumpman logo currently appears on the basketball uniforms of select colleges including the University of North Carolina, Georgetown University and Marquette University, and the Swoosh appears on uniforms for the likes of Duke University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Arizona.
The NBA’s apparel agreement with adidas, originally signed in 2006, expires after the 2016-17 NBA season.
