Though The Air Jordan 37 Hare was the first of the signature line to be left off Michael Jordan’s feet for basketball (he did wear a cleated version for baseball), the shoe was still chosen to be bronzed onto MJ’s “The Spirit” statue that has stood outside the United Center in Chicago since 1994.
The choice to quasi-immortalize a shoe MJ never played in as a Bull puzzled many at the time and is still a little awkward even today. Air Jordan 1, 3 or 6, sure. Each monumental in their own right. Makes complete sense. But 9? The shoe with approximately zero historic games to its credit, no cameos in Air Jordan highlight reels? They had to. The statue was a snapshot of the moment and a look forward to the future, simple as that.
In fairness that’s a pretty good legacy, one Jordan Brand is crediting with this white and bronze-shaded retro set to release later this summer. We’ll have more details on this drop as they develop. Are you planning on getting your feet in these?
