The Daily Jordan: OVO x Air Jordan 8 black heel detail “Bred” – 1998

Our latest Daily Jordan Air Jordan 1 Retro High Legends of the Summer Sneakers Michael Jordan wore throughout the ’98 playoffs – OVO x Air Jordan 8 black heel detail in Black/Varsity Red. Perhaps more than the other three original 13s, the Bred colorway electrified Tinker Hatfield‘s cat design inspiration. Jordan’s nickname among many NBA players was “Black Cat” because he played the game in a calculated and attacking manner, so Hatfield played up the imagery – wrapping suede over the paw pad-like tooling, and adorning the upper with dimples like those anchoring a cat’s whiskers and circle holograms representing cat eyes.

Bred 13s retroed for the first time in 2004 true to the ’98 version with reflective paneling behind the mesh, then returned in 2013 without it to the chagrin of many a Jordan fan.
