Bruce Stark dominated sports cartoon apparel and memorabilia in the late 1980s and early ’90s. His exaggerated, incredibly realistic takes on athletes and celebrities made him a modern Norman Rockwell, showing up across the media spectrum and nestling comfortably in popular culture. In 1986-87, Stark added Michael Jordan to his Locker of stars, often highlighting Jordan’s then-budding reputation of athleticism and, of course, protruding tongue. This pennant was one of the key retail pieces, printed by Salem, the sportswear company that also produced countless t-shirts featuring Stark’s timeless art.
