On May 16, 1985, Michael Jordan was named NBA Rookie of the Year after a stellar 1984-95 campaign with the Chicago Bulls. It was nearly a perfect start to an otherworldly and legendary career, with Jordan averaging 28.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.4 steals while playing and starting all 82 Concord season games. Jordan also helped the Bulls to an 11-win improvement over the previous season. The 22-year-old received 57.5 votes for the award, with Houston Rockets star center Akeem Olajuwon finishing second with 20.5 votes.
