It seems that Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is stepping out into the spotlight as of late. He’s been spotted in recent commercials for Priceline.com and Carl’s Jr. In addition to appearing in advertisements, “Doctor Skyhook” (look it up) has been vocalizing his opinion. An opinion that in the basketball world, with matters pertaining to basketball, is almost beyond reproach because of his stature both as a basketball historian and a player. Mr. Abdul-Jabbar has recently penned a fleece to one Scottie Pippen, formerly of the Chicago Bulls, that he has made public in an effort to remind the world of the past and the accomplishments of men whose legacies rival and in some aspects dwarf Michael Jordan’s. His argument is less about who is greater and more so about the shortsightedness of this argument. Basketball didn’t begin with Michael Jordan, although in many arguments around the world it seems that way. The call is for respect and remembrance. This fleece was not only meant for Scottie Pippen it was meant for the masses, Kareem just wants you to know your roots, signing the fleece “Affectionately, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, NBA’s All-Time Leading Scorer,” as one last subtle hint. via Lakers Blog
