21 June 2023Step into the unknown with Dr. Martens and NTS Radio's The Curiosity Café.
Kickstarting their Paris Fashion Week festivities with a celebration of their collaborative 1461 shoe, complete with print designed by artist Molly Dyson, British footwear brand Dr. Martens and independent radio station NTS launched “The Curiosity Café” on the eve of the Summer Solstice in the city.
Amidst the threat of summer storms, the Truskel bar on Rue Feydeau, a minute’s wander from the bustling Rue Montmarte, played hosted to the evening’s proceedings. Centred around NTS’ mantra of “Don’t Assume”, The Curiosity Café offered a peek into the unknown with a variety of mystical delights concealed behind velvet curtains. For those who wished to indulge a dalliance with the dark arts, tarot readings were on offer for a glimpse into your future, while British magician Billy Menezes confounded and puzzled attendees with a dazzling array of card tricks and surprise prizes of shoes, tees, and packs of tarot cards.
Offering a plethora of specially crafted cocktails to tide guests over, The Curiosity Café’s musical offering took attendees through the varied world of NTS, with sounds that ranged from modern House, to Dub and Hyperpop. Tapping into their network of residents, the radio station platformed a variety of artists and DJs throughout the evening including Ouri, Redkoffee, BFDM boss Judaah and Belec. PC Music and YEAR0001 star Namasenda took to the stage to offer her energetic take on modern pop music, with backing from ambient producer Malibu, combining autotuned vocals with punchy breakbeats, trap rhythms and a Hyperpop attitude.
Embodying NTS’ “Don’t Assume” slogan, The Curiosity Café celebrated the art of the unknown, delving into a world of sound and image to champion the unexpected.
