Nike x Sacai LDWafflePine Green, Clay Orange & Pink
Since debuting Sacai in 1999, creative director Chitose Abe has attained a level of reverence amongst the fashion pack that is ordinarily reserved for established couturiers. Here, she brings her signature spliced construction capabilities to sneaker heavyweight Nike, fusing two classic archival styles to create one catwalk-ready shoe that combines retro appeal with futuristic styling. Exploring themes of duality and betrayal, Abe brings the Waffle Daybreak and the LDV together in a veritable fruit salad flash of colour: mint green meets pineapple, topped with watermelon and finished with a dash of tangerine. Retro mesh uppers offer fluid translucence and are contrasted with overlays of luxe suede and leather, while Sacai subversion hits in the doubling up of everything from Swoosh branding to laces to tongues. The sneaker is finished with an extended foam midsole that juts out behind, imparting a rocket-launch look that perfectly compounds the unmissable collaboration.
