Artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton and founder and CEO of Off-White Virgil Abloh died of cancer on November 28th. He had been battling the disease for the past two years, but ultimately, the young visionary lost to cancer. The news reached us on Sunday, shocking family, friends, and fans.

Virgil Abloh was a renowned fashion designer and was esteemed for his many great works. He changed luxury fashion and was also the first black fashion designer to head Louis Vuitton Menswear. Fashion enthusiasts and sneakerheads are most familiar with his own luxury brand Off-White™. The creative director and designer worked to calm the approach that focused on youth culture, music, graphic design, and art history with luxury fashion.

On Sunday afternoon, the statement on the fashion designer's death was shared via Abloh's personal Instagram account and by LVMH. There, they describe fighting a rare, aggressive form of cancer called cardiac angiosarcoma.

"He chose to fight his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019 and underwent numerous challenging treatments, all while leading several major institutions in fashion, art, and culture. Through it all, his work ethic, endless curiosity, and optimism never let him down. Virgil was driven by his dedication to his craft and his mission to open doors for others and live pathways for greater equality in art and design," the statement reads.

Virgil Abloh was married to Shannon Abloh and had two children with her, Lowe and Grey Abloh.
