The auction of the Air Jordan yellow 1 High D "What The" was not an easy one. At the beginning, Nike and Doernbecher Children's Hospital had to end the auction early because of fake bids on eBay. Users were subjected to the bad joke on the charity auction and bid over 2 million USD for the sneaker.

The auction then went into the second round on March 2nd and ended on March 7th with an incredible $565,069.88. The money was, of course, raised for charity.

Air Jordan yellow 1 High D Air Jordan yellow 1 High D. A "What The" colourway combines 14 patient-designers from the history of the range with a totally over-the-top look. Individual elements were pieced together from past Jordan Brand collaborations for the charity initiative.

"This year, we weren't skillful to have any patient-designers, but that didn't stop us from celebrating because it's an annual moment that kids, the sneaker community, and Doernbecher circle in their calendars — as well as all of us at the company," says Eric Sandy, Colour Design Director for Jordan Brand. "We took it as an opportunity to celebrate past patient-designers and their inspiring stories, culminating these details in a "What The" design."

Only 17 pairs were made of the Air Jordan yellow 1 High D "What The" in honour of the programme's 17th year. In addition, the first Air Jordan yellow 1 High D "What The" with a custom laser-cut shoe box was auctioned off during the Virtually Freestyle event on February 25th. Other 16 pairs will then be auctioned on eBay later.

Proceeds from the entire sale of Air Jordan yellow 1 High D "What The" pairs will be donated to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
