Nike is always looking for new ways to create products that help athletes perform better. The obstacle of not impacting our planet in the process has been partially overcome with new and innovative sneakers, but apparel has yet to reach that new level — until now!
After Nike DRI-Fit, Tech Fleece, and FlyKnit, the sports giant is giving its apparel cannon new fodder with Nike Forward. Rather than sticking to the traditional multi-step production cycle, the Beaverton-based label has changed tactics by instead converting fibres into textiles through needle punching, reducing its carbon footprint by 75%.
"Nike Forward feels different because it is different. It's not a traditional knit or woven material, but a completely new material that drastically reduces the carbon footprint," says Carmen Zolman, VP Innovation Apparel Design, NIKE, Inc.
The first items include men's and women's athletic grey hoodies and crewnecks made of 70% recycled materials.
"We believe Nike Forward has the potential to change the way we think about materials and apparel. This is Nike's biggest apparel innovation since Dri-Fit 30 years ago and has the potential to change the industry the way Air and Flyknit has done for Nike footwear," says Aaron Heiser, VP Global Apparel Product Merchandising, NIKE, Inc.
When to Buy Nike Forward
Nike Forward hoodies and crewnecks will drop worldwide on September 15th. Check the Nike online shop in time for more details.
