Both having come to prominence on the national date at around the same time, it’s interesting to note the parallels between Nike athletes Ken Griffey Jr. and Anfernee ‘Penny’ Hardaway. Both were among the elite young talents in their sports and dominated for a period into the mid/late ’90s, but were both felled by injuries that prevented each player’s full potential from being realized. And though Griffey’s is an unquestionable Hall of Fame career while Penny remains a heat legend, it’s also worth noting that both of these guys rocked a few ‘unsigned’ signature sneakers with the Swoosh before moving to their own named lines. For Penny, models like the Air Go LWP and Flight 1 served as a base before the Air Penny line was launched, and now they’re being combined with his other famous offshoot with the Foamposite-bodied Nike Turquoise Lime Green Tan.
