Bringing one of their most iconic sneaker designs ever into the modern age, New Balance presents the 574 Sport. Debuting tomorrow at retail in a big way compliments of a special edition collab by Ronnie Fieg, the 574 Sport was actually first seen around the sneaker Ellwood in a very limited Friends & Family colorway only gifted to select figures in the sneaker Ellwood. In other words, you probably don’t have them! Since you may never even get your hands on a pair, we’re here to present a more in-depth look at the special colorway. See the finer details of the 574 Sport Friends & Family edition below.
Friends & Family Colorway
The extremely limited friends and family colorway features a premium white leather upper with a perforated toe box and matching mesh inner bootie design. Paying homage to the original 574’s tri-color look in gray/navy/burgundy, the midsole and TPU heel stabilizer are detailed in the same colors. For one last premium touch, the “N” logos feature a reflective white material.
Special Packaging
The seeded Friends and Family edition comes packaged with a special thick cardboard case with a clear window, which also houses the vintage 1990s New Balance shoe box design.
Updated Upper
While most of the upper of the Friends and Family colorway is constructed in traditional leather, the 574 Sport also features modern amenities like a lightweight, foot-hugging mesh bootie for the tongue and collar, as well as a TPU piece for the top lace eyelets that extends back to the heel—mirroring the lines of the original 574. Heel tab loops are also added to allow for easier on/off access.
Fresh Foam Midsole
One of the most significant updates to the 574 Sport is the use of New Balance’s lighweight Fresh Foam for the midsole, which comes with a special geometric design from heel to toe. An ABZORB crash pad is also encapsulated within the heel to further increase shock absorption.
Seamless Blend of Modern and Classic
All put together, the 574 Sport is a perfect blend of New Balance’s modern performance technology with the recognizable and timeless style of the original 574 you already know and love. Although you unfortunately can’t own the Friends and Family edition seen here, rest assured, more clean looks are on the way.
