In September 2017, sneaker culture lost one of its most valuable contributors. Gary Warnett was a bonafide expert in sneaker history and its surrounding interests, but above all he was a decent human being that left good impressions with anyone he came in contact with. News of his passing affected the collective world of footwear, streetwear, music, and journalism, and the ensuing outpour of condolences and support showed us how important Gary was to this business. Nike is continuing its recognition of their longtime friend and collaborative partner with a limited edition Air Span II, a favorite of Gary’s father, that features GW initials on the heel. Just forty pairs, a nod to his 40th birthday that arrived earlier this week on May 21st, were created and will likely be gifted to those closest to Warnett.
