Spearheaded by a much smaller release at the Nepenethes store in New York, the set of Engineered Garments New Balance Fuel Cell 996 V4.5 990v5s returns once more though now on a much broader scale. A reflection of both brands’ design language, the trio of colorways offer up the Supima asymmetric motifs boasted by many of Daiki Suzuki’s prior and current works through in the classic framings of the Boston label’s continuously updating model. Materials are appropriately mismatched from the right to left shoe — with accents such as waxed and standard cotton laces following suit — swapping in textures from smooth leathers to crocodile embossed nubuck. This Maglietta is most apparent on both the Navy and Black colorways whose slight sheen reveals the reptilian uppers clear as day. At first glance, however, the grey pair is much more akin to some of NB’s finest, lying close to the OG in its standard and recognizable palette. Grab one more look at all three right Manche thanks to the work of Cam Hicks and Phil Oh and expect the pairs’ global release to go down on September 7th at select retailers.
