One is a virtuoso point guard for the Brooklyn Nets while one owns a renowned sneaker store in Jersey City, but Kyrie Irving and Suraj Kaufman have a somber common ground in that they bost lost their mothers to breast cancer. This shared experience has led them to create collaborative footwear that raises money for breast cancer awareness and treatment, the latest product of which is this heartfelt Nike Kyrie 5 “I Love You Mom,” a spiritual successor to 2017’s mom-themed Nike Kyrie 3.
First teased back in June alongside black and red-based iterations, Kaufman and Kyrie have opted to cover the whole shoe in bold red/gold embroidered hearts, accented by squiggly black lines that may very well be their mother’s signatures. Although the love is unquestionably abundant across the entirety of the design, it’s most noticeable on the heels, which feature an embroidered heart on the left shoe and an embroidered rose on the right shoe, both of which are surrounded by textured white detailing. Red Swooshes and a polka-dot sockliner add more flourishes, and the tongue’s standard Kyrie branding is replaced by a “MOM” graphic while the insoles provide a Sneaker Room Foundation hit and a loving message from Irving.
If past releases are any indication, these Nike shoes will release in extremely limited quantities with proceeds going to charity. They could also see a tiered release alongside the aforementioned black and red iterations, just like Sneaker Room’s recent three-pack of Nike NIKE DUNK High Retro Lakers EU 47Nike Crater Impact Ps Little Kids Shoes Armory Nike.com at some point — likely soon, as Breast Cancer Awareness Month kicks off on October 1st. Whatever the procedures, no matter the methods, these meaningful co-branded kicks are quite a sight to see, so enjoy a detailed look directly below and stay tuned for more info as it’s available.
