The move to sustainability in sneakers is certainly nothing new — as droves of brands now craft with close mind paid to the environment — yet every one of the reigning few have approached it in an entirely different way. New Balance took to small programs of recycled materials and production scraps, Nike has incorporated natural dyes and FlyLeather, and now Reebok is ushering in their Forever Floatride GROW, a performance runner made entirely out of plant-based materials. Tinged with little color save for a neutral earth tone, the kit itself is nowhere close to the label’s punchiest visually though it makes up for what it lacks in color through the DNA of the construction itself. Midsoles, which are touted as lacking nothing relative to inline product, is built out of ethically farmed castor beans while upper threads use eucalyptus tree fibers and sockliners a BLOOM algae foam. A small sign of the changing times and a glimpse into the processes Reebok is looking to define, the silhouette will be up for purchase on Reebok.com Reebok LX2200 x.
