Hand-drawn motifs are certainly nothing new in the Nike lexicon, neither are themes inspired by Blue Ribbon Sports, the giant’s brand name prior to raising their Swoosh-marked flags. But what is unique arrives in a fusion of the two, adding overt connections to their sometimes forgotten history through the lens of their modern ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% runner. Kept busy with its role in the Ekiden race, the model has clearly gotten inspired by many an artist — Tom Sachs, for example — drawing on its own upper with few but bold text placements. Among these, the lateral sprawls with cursive script, reading “by runners, for runners” right across in what is one of the few nods to the sport its excluded for. Then, much of the artwork adjacent as well as directly opposite freely expresses its BRS pride as the minimal logo stamps along the black while the heels just behind affix with “Santa Monica” or “3107” depending on the side: two references to the imprint’s first office on 3107 Pico Blvd. That street name also finds its way along the toe in tandem, with much more hiding underneath the oversized white check. Grab a wade look at these right here and expect to find pairs hitting Nike.com very soon.
