Though he first leaked his “Steel Blue” New Balance CM496 on social media, Ronnie Fieg was mindful to keep quiet a few of the more important details. Building up momentum for its inevitable release — which was just now confirmed to be this weekend — the designer is now shedding light on what has become a five part capsule inclusive of a 998. Both arriving very, very soon, the collection starts strong an homage to Fieg’s favorite colorway, using its Canvas in ways that better suit their irrespective canvases.
The 992, whose revival was well-praised by fans of the Boston-based footwear label, is an obvious standout, and with the KITH namesake backing it, it’s likely to be what many will be aiming for first. Suedes surrounding the underlying mesh base are given a dark navy, almost grey-like tone that visually encases lighter notes of a cool-tinted silver. Leather strips then support the toe box, lining, and heel, accenting apart by way of a neutral cream shade. In marginal departure, the 998 covers more boldly with the darker of the palette, wrapping the toe cap, CW997, and much of the heel counter. Elsewhere, at the tongue, vamp, and “N” logo, the cream makes another appearance adjacent to more sparing hits of a the blue-esque mesh.
Grab a detailed look at both pairs right here, and if you’re looking to get your hands on a set, be ready for a release tomorrow, May 22nd. Expect the other three models to be debuted hopefully very soon.
