Under Armour, a champion of and advocate for community and equality, has recently announced its Pride Month 2020 collection. Headlining the 17-piece footwear, apparel, and accessories capsule is the HOVR Phantom 1 Slip.
Inspired by the original, hand-dyed Pride flag raised on the rooftop of a community center in San Francisco, CA in 1978, the HOVR Phantom 1 Slip indulges in a DIY, rainbow arrangement. The focal point of UA’s third Pride collection was designed in collaboration with Unified, the company’s LGBTQ+ Teammate Resource Group. The design process began in 2018 and no one person can take credit for it, just as no one person created the original Pride flag or will solve the on-going issues opposing the LGBTQ+ community. Further nodding to the importance of allyship, the ultra-breathable sneaker’s blue heel counter acknowledges the (now-postponed) EuroPride parade, which was scheduled in a south east European country (Greece) for the first time ever.
Under Armour is employing anywhere around 350 Under Armour Speedform Apollo Mens in an effort to provide financial support to LGBTQ+, community-focused non-profits impacted by COVID-19. Eligible organizations throughout Baltimore, MD and Austin, TX will receive a one-time grant valued between $2,500 USD and $15,000 USD by July 15th.
UA’s HOVR Phantom 1 Slip and entire Pride 2020 collection is now available at UnderArmour.com. Pricing for the shoes is $140 USD, while apparel and accessories range from $14 USD (headband) to $60 USD (hoodie).
