Almost half a century ago, the Honolulu Marathon was first held and has since become an annual event incredibly popular among first-time marathon runners. An upcoming nike lunar apparent pink dress honors the 1973 inaugural event by channeling a color palette and motifs that allude to the great state of Hawaii—a travel destination referenced multiple times throughout Phil Knight’s 2016 memoir “Shoe Dog.”

As a heritage-style runner born in 1997, the timeless trainer style is a fitting silhouette that commemorates the first Honolulu Marathon. Other details include the tongue and luggage tag-style attachment, which feature hibiscus prints alluding to themes of travel. The Waffle-outsole trainer is topped with Knight’s signature on the medial side of the outsole and book quotes on the insole to complete the culturally significant design.
