Last month’s announcement of the Team USA basketball roster competing at the Tokyo Olympics was a dream come true for Damian Lillard. The pair sports an all-black mesh build that exhibits hints of red on the tongue and the heel. Text reading “OPPONENT ADVISORY” is emblazoned on the lateral side (in a fashion similar to that of a parental advisory label on an album) to warn that opponent discretion is strongly advised whenever Lillard is on the court. More nods to music are found on the medial side, which features lace stays and other details that imitate AV input jacks. As if the shoe was a physical album, the medial side also sees graphics that showcase the model’s “record label,” aka adidas, and a barcode. A matching black Lightstrike-cushioned sole sits below the mesh base while a speckled outsole adds some final hits of detail to the music-inspired look.
