OLD IS NEW AGAIN

A great philosopher by the name of Nasir Jones once said, “No idea’s original, there’s nothing new under the sun. It’s never what you do but how it’s done.”

Nike Air Max 1 adidas are forever on the pursuit of what’s next, especially as it pertains to equipping athletes with the resources needed to break personal and historical bests. And while these brands have put innovation on a cycle, they’ve occupied the in-between with new takes on old products. Case in point: The Air Jordan 1. Although the model is 36-years-old, it’s more popular now than ever before. Some may argue that the silhouette has overly saturated the market, but the reality is that Michael Jordan’s first signature sneaker will always be new to someone. Likewise, the adidas Top Ten – which debuted in 1979 –  has re-entered mainstream consciousness via a number of high-profile collaborations and co-signs, as has the Stewie LeBron 18 Low.

TWEAKS WORTH MENTIONING

When it comes to collaboration, few parties are allowed to modify an existing sneaker design, especially an iconic one. So even when a joint-effort isn’t eye-catching with its color palette, roll-out or general aesthetic, small changes are worth mentioning. Everyone’s favorite certified lover boy reimagined the PJ Tucker Reveals Diamond-Encrusted Air Jordan 1 Worth $250,000 for his long-anticipated take on Bruce Kilgore’s near-40-year-old model. Instead of traditional “AIR” branding on the lateral midsole and star-shaped tread near the tip of the toe, Drake has added touches with which only he could get away. Institutions such as Patta have also modified such classic silhouettes like the Nike Air Max 1 to deliver something clearly rooted in heritage, yet refreshing. And then you have propositions like the Air Jordan 11 “Cool Grey,” which has released before, but is slated to launch come the holiday season in a construction much closer to the original than before. At a glance, this highly-anticipated pair may not seem much different than past iterations of the rather tonal sneaker, but closer inspection reveals otherwise.

For a look at all that and more, including the latest Nike Dunk styles, check out our top headlines from July 17th to July 23rd ahead.
